Victoria, Gozo – An exciting new art gallery, Ta Nikol, opens next week. The gallery will initially be exhibiting works by German photographer Lisa Gast and British artist Oliver Cook. With a unique mix of subjects, both local and international, including landscapes, street scenes, nudes, pin-ups, and even some aviation, military and religious images, it really will be a totally eclectic experience, and perhaps a little edgy for Gozo. A range of originals and signed prints will be available. The gallery itself has a totally non-pretentious and welcoming atmosphere and prices range mainly from €20 - €100 making it totally accessible for the widest range of customers.
The gallery will be opening its doors on Monday 12th August 2013, with a small celebration being thrown on the evening of Wednesday 14th August. Anyone who would like an invite to the Wednesday evening celebration is welcome to get in touch. Both Lisa and Oliver will be on hand in the gallery to meet everyone personally for the week starting 12th August.
Ta Nikol gallery is located at 43 Triq Mons. Ġużeppi Farrugia, Victoria, VCT 1263, Gozo. It is just a few metres from St. George’s Square and the basilica. The gallery itself is situated next to the small Sound and Vision shop, and is easily identifiable by its traditional red painted arched wooden door and wrought iron sign and lamp.
Lisa Gast is a twenty four year old German photographer who has been living on Gozo for several years. After spending time in various parts of Europe, from Paris, London and Berlin to Mallorca she finally found her perfect home in the beautiful Gozitan village of Xlendi. When she is not back in Germany paragliding or gliding she can be found finding new angles through which to photograph the breath taking Gozitan landscape. Her photography is typified by an understated, natural flow without contrivance or tension – whether the subject is a landscape or a person.
Oliver Cook is a thirty one year old British artist who has only been living on Gozo for a few months. Oliver studied at the Kent Institute of Art & Design (alumni include artists such as Tracey Emin) in Kent, England. After living and working in both the United Kingdom and the United States he has also settled in the Gozitan village of Xlendi. Oliver’s creations take a wide variety of forms, from painting and drawing, to photography and even writing (also being a published novelist). His photography and drawings will be most represented at Ta Nikol gallery, with a focus on tasteful female figures.
